Building
your web site
with a WYSIWYG, (What You See Is What
You Get), program is by far the easiest way for a beginner
to design and build a web site he or she can be proud of. There are many
big name products like FrontPage®, Deamweaver® and GoLive®,
which are truly excellent programs, however they are expensive and very
time consuming to learn. On the inexpensive and easy to use end of the scale
is my personal favorite"Web Page Construction Kit Deluxe 6.0"
I've used several webbuilders, everything from Frontpage to Dreamweaver
and found that "Web Page Construction" is the easiest to use.
Quickly make buttons and a layout and your on your way. If you are willing
to take the time to learm one of the professional programs I suggest Dreamweaver.
It's powerfull enough to build anything your head can dream up.
As
a beginner I tried to build web sites with many different programs from FrontPage,
Dreamweaver and GoLive and nothing was easier to use then Namo. I was able to
layout a page in no time and make it look the way I wanted. It even comes with
some really nice buttons & banners, to add some spice to your site. Namo
has a demo on the site that shows you how the program works and by watching
that I learned mostly everything I needed to use the program
If
you have no idea of HTML programming or a huge wallet, then this is the software
tool to use. Cheap and easy, it is simple and overall a bit lacking in the complexities
of the more expensive programs.
Dreamweaver
has been my choice for web editing since I figured out what I was doing. I started
with Adobe PageMill, so the logical step should have been GoLive. But, I had
a choice and Dreamweaver won out. The
Dreamweaver 4.0, Fireworks 4.0 Studio is my unquestionable favorite, if your
can dream it you can do it.
A
very exasperating product experience for me. This product probably works fine
it you are hooked into Microsoft's web hosting service, but I was already happy
and content with my Earthlink account. Much to my dismay I find that Earthlink
does not support Microsoft's web extensions. This means that the lovely page
I created on my hard drive looked half done when it was uploaded to Earthlink.
Specifically, all of my embedded pictures would not show up. I wish I had known
about these problems before buying the software and spending a day creating
my web page. I did find some warnings on Earthlink's page, so I just did not
do enough due diligence I guess. This leads one to ask: Is this a Front Page
problem or an Earthlink problem? I am not sure, but I am happy with Earthlink
based on past experiences. Also, given that you have to pay a monthly fee to
use Microsoft's hosting service, I am very suspicious of them. I wish this product
was more open to other hosting sites, because I did not find it too difficult
to use. If you buy it, though, just be prepared to use the Microsoft web hosting
service.
Over the years, I've tried many HTML editors, Including online ones such as
Yahoo! Geocities, and looking at the code it generated, I must say I was disgusted.
GoLive's code cleanliness is commendable, how many times have you designed a
page in frontpage and found that Mozilla doesn't like it? Could GoLive be the
next Dreamweaver?
You can make a very professional looking website in no time at all and it can
be as advanced or as simple as you want it to be. From a web site wizard for
beginners to editing your own html for the more advanced. Drag and drop your
images where you want them, e-mail forms, random images... You will not regret
the investment if you are serious about being a web designer or just wanting
your only web site to be taken more seriously.
